چکیده

An extension of the normalized mutual information similarity measurement was proposed to register cardiac PET/CT and SPECT images representing coronary artery disease in the heart. 23 PET/CT images obtained by a hybrid camera, and their corresponding SPECT were processed. The SPECT was registered to the PET/CT image pairs by a triple NMI based auto-registration. For validation and comparison an triple MI based registration among the PET-SPECT-CT images was performed. Two further dual NMI based auto-registrations between the SPECT-CT and SPECT-PET were performed as well. Based on the comparative results gained by a medical expert, our triple NMI method gave the best transformation parameters with a minimal number of iterations to superimpose the images.

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

Assessment of the Wavelet Transform for Noise Reduction in Simulated PET Images

Introduction: An efficient method of tomographic imaging in nuclear medicine is positron emission tomography (PET). Compared to SPECT, PET has the advantages of higher levels of sensitivity, spatial resolution and more accurate quantification. However, high noise levels in the image limit its diagnostic utility. Noise removal in nuclear medicine is traditionally based on Fourier decomposition o...

The influence of misregistration between CT and SPECT images on the accuracy of CT-based attenuation correction of cardiac SPECT/CT imaging: Phantom and clinical studies

Introduction: Integration of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and computed tomography (CT) scanners into SPECT/CT hybrid systems permit detection of coronary artery disease in myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Misregistration between CT and emission data can produce some errors in uptake value of SPECT images. The aim of this study was evaluate the influence...

3D Non-Rigid Registration for Abdominal PET-CT and MR Images Using Mutual Information and Independent Component Analysis

The aim of this study is to develop a 3D registration algorithm for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images acquired from independent PET/CT and MR imaging systems. Combined PET/CT images provide anatomic and functional information, and MR images have high resolution for soft tissue. With the registration technique, the strengths of each moda...

Comparative evaluation of similarity measures for the rigid registration of multi-modal head images.

Image registrations that are based on similarity measures simply adjust the parameters of an appropriate spatial transformation model until the similarity measure reaches an optimum. The numerous similarity measures that have been proposed in the past are differently sensitive to imaging modality, image content and differences in the image content, selection of the floating and target image, pa...
